About directors view

The new Directors View “Post” mode is where to go after the shot has been created, and one is not intending to move the camera again; or to swap out the camera with an image.

In this mode you can markup your 3D shots in-app, as well as swap out the whole shot for an imported or created image.

Swapping for an image is useful!

  1. Establishing shots. Need a shot of a plane landing in NYC? Rather than building it out in 3D, and having it be less-then-perfect, simpler just to search or generate a photo in ten seconds and drop it in.  Remember, the storyboard is for you and your team.
  2. Complicated props. If it’s important for the screenplay that James Bond is wearing a Movado watch, getting a 3D Movado prop is cumbersome and not ideal.  Simpler to just use a photo of the watch on a wrist and drop it in. Quick swap; move on.
  3. Slug Lines or Title Cards.  Insert them into your storyboard with a few taps.
  4. Storyboard artists. Yes, really! At the Siggraph show this year we met a professional artist on a major film. They surprised us with a work flow we hadn’t designed, so if they were using it despite the app not being built for it— the least we could do was make that workflow better.  They said that they used Previs Pro with the film’s Director and it made their work faster and better. The Director used Previs Pro to convey in 3D accurate detail the framing and type of shots they wanted. The Storyboard Artist could use Previs Pro too while they talked through the script.  When it came time to draw the panels, rather then starting from notes, the Artist could use the Previs Pro panels, sometimes even drawing over the perfect camera framing with the Previs shots being a transparency layer. It saved time and resulted in better communication and a final storyboard. Cool!
  5. The ability to quickly mix and match images, quick doodles you make, 3D accurate in app scene creation, AR images, markup and more all comes together to let Previs Pro be a creative and organizing powerhouse, letting you make the storyboard you want, faster.

That’s the update, looking forward to an active year of Previs Pro development and wishing everyone a happy New Years.

Now go and make great stuff!
